Iron and sulfur in your water supply can lead to a range of issues that affect both your home's plumbing and the quality of your water. High iron levels can cause reddish-brown stains on fixtures and laundry, while sulfur can give your water an unpleasant rotten egg smell. Our advanced water treatment solutions effectively address these contaminants, ensuring your water is clean, clear, and odor-free.
If you have iron and/or hydrogen sulfide (sulfur), then the stains and unmistakable rotten-egg odor is something you want to eradicate. Unquestionably, the best way to eradicate rotten-egg odor once and for all, as well as iron (rust), is with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) injected ahead of Catalytic Carbon filtration media.
Iron and sulfur are naturally occurring elements that can find their way into your water supply, often from underground sources. When iron is present in your water, it can oxidize, leading to reddish-brown stains on sinks, bathtubs, and laundry. These stains are not only unsightly but can also be difficult to remove, affecting the overall appearance of your home.
Sulfur, on the other hand, is commonly found in the form of hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas is notorious for its distinctive rotten egg smell, which can make drinking water unpleasant and even undrinkable. Beyond the foul odor, sulfur can also corrode your plumbing fixtures and pipes, leading to costly repairs and replacements.
It's important to address these issues promptly, as prolonged exposure to high levels of iron and sulfur in your water can pose health risks. Iron can encourage the growth of bacteria, while sulfur can lead to gastrointestinal problems if ingested in large quantities. By identifying and treating these contaminants, Churyk Company, Inc. ensures that your water is safe, clean, and pleasant to use, protecting both your home and your family's health.

Single Tank Aeration Systems for the Treatment of Iron and Hydrogen Sulfide
A Fleck control valve (top image) oversees the backwash of the filter, renewing and resettling the media bed, and renews the air pocket in the top of the treatment tank.
Aeration turns “clear water” (ferrous) iron into “red water” (ferric) iron which is easily caught by a filter. With a Single Tank Aerator, both aeration and filtration can be performed in the same tank.
Air is one of the most effective treatments for well water with the problems of rotten egg odor and red and black staining. Air adds no chemicals to the water, requires no routine maintenance, and is inexpensive to apply.
Closed-tank aeration is a long established method for preparing iron, hydrogen sulfide, and manganese for removal by filtration.
Single tank units require no electrical pumps, no solenoids, and no external venturis. Single tank units are compact, require little electricity, and are very easy to install, set up, and maintain. Most of all, they are very effective.
Benefits of Iron Filters:
Iron levels above 1 ppm are considered high, 2 ppm or higher are extremely high. Excessive iron will cause yellow or orange staining in fixtures, clog pipes, water heaters and appliances, promote the growth of bacteria, create unpleasant odors and may be a heath concern when consumed at high levels. It is necessary to discern the levels of both ferrous and ferric iron for proper treatment and filtration.
Include:
Not sure what size filter you need? Bigger is usually better but remember, a system should be sized according to flow rate that is available for backwashing. A system must be backwashed at the specified flow rate to ensure it is flushed properly. Churyk will identify which filter size you will need and type of filter.
Contaminant Removal:
Iron - Up to 20 ppm
Hydrogen Sulfide - Up to 30 ppm
Manganese - Up to 1 ppm
Works effectively from pH levels of 6 to 9

Clack Filter-Ag is a silica, crystalline quartz media which can be used as highly efficient filter media for the reduction of suspended matter. Clack Filter-Ag® has many outstanding advantages over the more common granular filter medias used for suspended solids reduction. Its fractured edges and irregular surface provides a high surface area and complex flow path for efficient removal of suspended matter throughout the filter bed, typically reducing suspended solids down to the 20-40 micron range. Filter-Ag’s larger particle size creates less pressure loss through the filter and allows deeper sediment penetration into the bed for higher sediment loading and longer filter runs. The large and irregular shape prevents the screening and caking of sediment in the top several inches of the filter bed as happens in the typical sand filter, thus preventing a rapid buildup of headloss and blinding problems.
Filter-Ag’s light weight means lower backwash rates and better bed expansion to release trapped sediment and rinse the filter media during the backwash cycle. The combination of particle shape, size and density make it a good choice where quality water filtration and water conservation are important.
Although not intended to be an iron reduction media, extensive field experience has shown Filter-Ag’s rough and jagged surface to be very good at entrapping the fragile iron flock that forms after dissolved iron has been oxidized. Typical oxidation methods include aeration, ozonation and chlorination.
Substantial savings can be realized when designing a system using Clack Filter-Ag. Its low pressure drop, high service flow rates and high bed loadings combined with lower backwash rates allow economy in equipment downsizing and reduced pumping requirements. Its light weight also saves on handling expense and shipping costs.
Clack Filter-Ag can be applied to systems designed for either pressure or gravity flow. Because of its unique density, Filter-Ag can also be used in multi-media (graded density) filter designs allowing a more flexible approach to difficult filtration problems.

Radial flow iron reduction cartridge The RFFE20-BB filter cartridge is designed to provide an easy and effective method of reducing iron from water, which significantly improves the taste.
The RFFE-20BB filter improves water flavor by reducing the metallic taste caused by iron. The RFFE-20BB water filter adds no harmful chemicals to the water, making it completely safe for drinking water applications. The RFFE-20BB cartridges will contain a very small amount of fines (very fine powder) and new cartridges, after installation, should be flushed with sufficient water to remove all traces of fines from your water system before use. Using the RFFE20BB filter cartridge reduces the possibility of pipe and water heater damage. RFFE-20BB cartridges help to eliminate the orange and brown stains often found in sinks, toilets, tubs and other plumbing fixtures.
The RFFE20-BB cartridge should be installed on the main cold water line after the pressure tank or water meter. For best results, pre-sediment and post-carbon treatment is recommended
Additional Benefits:
This whole house iron reduction cartridge provides an economic alternative for iron reduction compared to whole house tank systems. This filter requires no wasteful backwash cycle and this saves a lot water waste and filtration time. When the media needs to be replaced, simply remove it from your filter housing and exchange it with a replacement, no need to uninstall or reroute plumbing like with a tank system. Enjoy iron reduction with this convenient iron reduction replacement cartridge.
NOTE: Water conditions outside of the specified limits may lead to a shortened filtration life. If your water contains Iron Bacteria, shock chlorination is recommended and we offer B&B Chlorination Systems.
An additional solution we provide for removing iron is installing a B&B Chlorination System. These systems are used to treat well water problems by dispensing chlorine pellets directly into the well water. The chlorine oxidizes iron and manganese, which can help reduce staining and eliminate iron bacteria. Chlorination systems can also help prevent other potential well issues, such as hydrogen sulfide bacteria, coliform bacteria, and iron buildup. This can help keep water cleaner and extend the life of submersible pumps and other equipment.
Unlike conventional iron/manganese/hydrogen sulfide removal, chlorine injection occurs just before entering the filtration vessels, requiring only a very short contact time. These conditions facilitate a very rapid oxidation on the surface of the media to facilitate the oxidation/filtration process in a single step with no long residence times or contactor required.
Advantages are numerous, including:
